Statistics

  • Rooks Case: Calculates Spatial Autocorrelation, Moran's I, Geary's C, Join-Count, Gi, G*i, Import IDRISI, Randomization for Monte Carlo Simulation.
    • Sawada, M. 1999. ROOKCASE: An Excel 97/2000 Visual Basic (VB) Add-in for Exploring Global and Local Spatial Autocorrelation. Bulletin of the Ecological Society of America, 80(4):231-234.
    • Download program and basic manual and additional information (PDF containing optional examples, more details etc.)
  • Model II Regression: Performs Geometric Mean Regression in Excel '97. Download program and documentation.

Climate data processing & analysis

GIS

  • MIKECON: A utility that converts pcArc/Info line files made with UNGEN to comma delimited xyz files where z is the user-id assigned to the line. Useful for creating DEMs from spaghetti digitized covers. Also has some useful utilities. Download program and documentation.
  • Poly xyz: Takes ArcView PolyLine theme and exports an xyz comma delimited text file. Used primarily for creating xyz files of elevation contours for creating DEM's. Download program and documentation.
  • IDW: Creates a continuous field estimate from irregularly spaced x,y,z data using inverse distance interpolation with optional search-radius constraints. Download program and documentation.
  • PINP: Determines whether a given point or set points is/are within a given polygon or set of polygon. Download program and documentation.
  • PCLIP: Because S+ will not clip filled polygons when they are added to a plot this function was written to do the clipping of polygons to any rectangle. Download program and documentation.

Macros for Paleo Work

  • CalCal: Using INTCAL98 (Stuiver and Reimer 1998) as input, this function linearly interpolates a given 14C year to its calendar year equivalent. The user can choose to report all intercepts, or some summary of the intercepts. This function requires a DLL called "linint.dll" to be loaded before use (see notes). Download program and documentation.
  • F702EXCEL: The program F702EXCEL converts GPD ASCII F70 files directly to spreadsheets in MS Excel 97 or later. Users can choose to convert all available taxa, interactively select taxa and determine that data should be output in either raw counts or percentages. A single F70 file "lakegb2.f70" (Gajewski et al. 1993) is disseminated with the program for demonstration purposes. Download program and documentation.
  • Dendrochronology: The RawRingWidth macro is a useful tool for reformatting raw ring-width measurements to be used for graphing purposes. The ArstanFormat macro is a useful tool for reformatting tree-ring indices obtained from the program ARSTAN.  Download programs and documentation with instructions for running macros in Excel.
